If you know how to wear in a leather jacket, you can take a new jacket and make it look vintage at home. Plus, wearing in a leather jacket makes it more comfortable and less stiff. You can wear in a leather jacket with little to no preparation. Once you know what you are doing you can grab a few things from around your house and get started.

To wear in a leather jacket, you will need:

  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Sandpaper
  • A wire brush
  • A spray bottle
  • Rubber bands
  1. Fill an empty spray bottle with rubbing alcohol. Hang the leather jacket on a hanger in the shower. Mist the entire surface of the leather jacket with the rubbing alcohol. Do not saturate the jacket; a fine mist will do.
  2. Bunch the leather jacket up into a ball. Keep crumpling and bunching it in different ways. This will add distress lines to wear in your leather jacket. You can even use rubber bands to twist areas of the jacket and leave them in that position overnight.
  3. Brush your leather jacket with a wire bristle brush. This will help rough the jacket up. Pay attention to areas that normally see wear, such as the elbows and collar.
  4. Wear in your leather jacket in spots like pocket corners and edges by buffing it with fine-grit sandpaper. Take your time with this step, because once you buff a spot with sandpaper you will not be able to reverse the changes made to the leather in that spot.
