How To Wear Spurs On Boots

Wondering how to wear spurs on boots? The most common reason for wearing spurs on boots is as a riding aid when horse back riding. Other reasons include things like bronc or bull riding. It's important to wear spurs correctly so they do not come off when you need them most. Spurs are made with straps or chains in order to securely fit on the boot.

Things you'll need:

  • Pair of boots
  • Pair of spurs
  1. Fit the spur on your boot. To wear spurs on boots, you first need to fit the heel of your boot into the U-shaped part of the spur. Make sure the spur is facing the correct direction. The "U" of the spur should sit just above the heel of the boot.
  2. Attach the strap or chain. The straps or chain on your spurs must be attached snugly in order to keep the spur on your boot. The strap or chain will either fit around your ankle or under the heel of the boot. This is where it is important that the spur is facing the right direction so that you can connect the chain or strap correctly when wearing spurs on boots.
  3. Secure the spur firmly. When wearing spurs on boots, make sure the spur doesn't wiggle around on your boot. It should stay firmly in place. Tighten the strap or chain until it does so. If the spur is not attached snuggly, it will not have the desired effect on the horse you're riding. When using spurs on your horse, make sure you're not too rough. It's not a good idea to jab the horse's ribs; it's better just to push a horse forward with the spur.  Also, be careful wearing spurs on your boots with a horse if you do not know how the animal will react.
