To do a wheelie on a BMX you need:

  • BMX bike
  • Protective gear (helmet, gloves, knee pads)
  1. Start off riding your BMX and build up to about medium speed. Don't start off too fast when first learning how to do wheelies. As you get better and more comfortable, you can go faster.
  2. Figure out the best placement of your feet. Place your feet wherever they feel the most comfortable on your BMX. Generally, if you are a right-handed person, you would have your right foot forward and visa versa for a left-handed person. Place the stronger foot in front.
  3. Once you have built up some speed, position your body. When your strong foot is in front, lean your body weight backward while you simultaneously pull up slightly on the handlebars.
  4. As the front wheel starts to lift off the ground, lean back even more. If you are able to, try to continue pedaling while doing your wheelie on your BMX. If you begin to flip, tap your rear break. This will bring slightly bring your front wheel down or your can just stop pedaling and let yourself coast. Pedal faster and harder if you start falling forward.
  5. Coming out of your wheelie. Lean forward to bring the wheel back down and allow your BMX to lose its speed.
