Humira Side Effects

If you are taking Humira, you should know what the Humira side effects are first. Physicians mostly give their patients Humira because it can help such arthritis conditions as rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis and psproatoc arthritis, as well as treating such conditions as plaque psoriasis and Chron’s Disease.  Humira is known for its ability to help reduce inflammation.  Yet, like any drug it can have side effects.  Some of the most common side effects associated with taking it are:

  1. Raising one’s chances of developing cancer and autoimmune disorders.  The chances of developing cancer and autoimmune disorders are even greater in children and young adults. 
  2. Raising one’s chance of developing infection.   While anyone is taking this medication they can develop infections easier since the drug is known to reduce one’s amount of total blood cells. This means it can be easy for one to develop normal infections such as colds, flues and small grade fevers.
  3. Raising one’s chances of developing serious infections.  Since the drug raises one’s chances of developing infections and lowers one’s total blood cells, over time, this can also means that it also raising the risk of developing serious and even deadly infections.  For this reason, it is advised that patients on this drug stay away from people suffering from contagious and especially highly contagious diseases.  One is also supposed to report any infection to his/her doctor immediately.
  4. Bleeding and bruising.  Since blood cell count is lowered this also makes it easier for one to bleed and bruise easier while on this medication.  Therefore it is advised that one takes precautions when taking part in activities, to keep from getting hurt.  Regular blood tests are also advised to make sure that the blood count level doesn’t fall to low.

Humira is a medication that can be beneficial to some people.  Yet, they should be aware of its side effects.
