Internet Dating Rules

Curious about internet dating rules? There are some important rules regarding internet dating that have emerged in the growing market of online dating. Dating on the internet can be extremely confusing and potentially dangerous, due to scams and those who take advantage of others. Take the following internet dating rules into account to make the online dating experience much smoother.

  1. Research a dating site before you use it. There are many dating sites out there, and not all of them are of high quality. Research the site and make yourself aware of the people that are on there (some are specific to some concept, such as religion), and also be aware of any fees involved. Don't pay for a site that you haven't researched, as some sites make claims that do not attest to their quality.
  2. Converse in written form, and on the phone, before meeting. A good internet dating rule is to get to know the other person before trying to meet her. Write and maybe later call to get to know the person. Many women are taken advantage of in online dating, and will not appreciate quick attempts to meet in person, regardless of your motives.
  3. Always meet in a public place for the early dates. Public places make for relaxed first dates when two people meet for the first time, face-to-face. In internet dating, it isn't a good idea to pick the woman up or meet in a private place due to safety concerns. If she is hesitant to meet (which many are if they haven't done it before), offer to double date with friends to take the burden off of her.
  4. Don't move too fast. This rule is certainly relevant for normal dating. However, in online dating, it becomes more important due to safety concerns.
  5. Make sure your profile gives a good picture of yourself. Put up a few good pictures and describe yourself accurately. Be sure to give some insight into what you're about in order to attract those who are compatible with you. A good profile can make all the difference.
