You might need this iPhone troubleshooting guide if your phone is acting strangely and you can’t come to a solution for your problem. iPhones are intricate and complex devices with loads of features and options, but they can sometimes operate incorrectly (causing you great frustration and stress). Instead of ignoring the problem or shipping it off for repair, try some of these tips and steps below that are known to resolve most issues with the Apple iPhone.

  1. The first thing you should do to cancel out any issues caused by outdated software is upgrade to the latest OS offered by Apple. Many times, people experience problems with their iPhones that are related to having outdated operating system software. Maybe your phone is freezing or having trouble sending text messages. Whatever the case may be, you should always connect your phone to your computer (with iTunes installed) to update it to the latest OS release. Many attempting iPhone troubleshooting will be surprised that this eliminates most common iPhone problems.
  2. Reboot the phone. A simple reboot can solve many iPhone issues, surprisingly. Many people leave their phones running for long periods of time which can create more likelihood that problems will arise. You should regularly reboot the phone to keep things running orderly. Reboot the phone by holding the Lock Screen button down and waiting for the red slider to fly out. When you see it, simply swipe it and the phone will power down.
  3. Hard-reset the phone. Rebooting the phone can solve many iPhone issues, but if you find that a normal reboot does nothing to solve your issue, it may be time to try a hard-reset. The hard-reset does not affect any data on the phone; it simply reboots the phone completely. You can hard-reset your phone by holding the Home Screen button and Lock Screen button simultaneously for until the phone shuts down completely. You may see the red slider button appear for turning the phone off. Ignore this and continue to hold the two buttons. You will hear a slight click when the phone fully shuts down. Release the buttons and turn it back on by holding the Lock Screen button.
  4. Reset all the settings for your phone. Sometimes, users have their settings configured in different ways that may make the phone unstable or hard to operate. Many times, users doing iPhone troubleshooting will find that a reset will help work out any kinks caused by this. Tap the settings button on your home screen and navigate to the “General” section. Locate the word “Reset” at the bottom of the screen and tap it. Choose the first option at the top that’s titled, “Reset All Settings.” Select the red button that reads, “Reset All Settings” and wait for the phone to complete the process.
  5. Maybe your phone has gotten incredibly too slow; there’s a way to quickly cure this. When iPhones are new out of the box, they are zippy and very quick about executing tasks. Over time, however, they become sluggish and slow about opening applications and processing information. You can help speed it back up by clearing out data on your phone that you don’t use. Maybe you felt like adding your entire music collection on iTunes to your iPhone. If you’re not listening to the music, delete it. It will make your phone slower to have a significant amount of data on it. If you’ve got apps that you never use, delete them. Deleting data that you don’t use will tremendously improve the speed and efficiency of your phone.
