Iron Rich Foods To Eat

There are many iron rich foods to eat for people lacking iron in their blood. Typically people with low iron content are considered anemic and try to increase their iron content by eating foods rich in iron.

  1. Red Meat. A common iron rich food to eat is red meat. Any type of red meat contains iron and typically because of the portion of red meat consumed, the meat provides a good source of iron.
  2. Egg Yolks. Egg yolks are another good source of iron for people.
  3. Liver. Liver is loaded with iron and is great to eat for people lacking iron in their bodies. Liver contains 9 mg. of iron; while liver paste provides 6.4 mg.
  4. Kidney Beans. Many types of beans and peas are considered rich in iron content. A serving of kidney beans provides 8 mg of iron.
  5. Cereals. Iron-rich cereals can provide between 18 and 24 mg of iron per one cup serving. These cereals include corn flakes, bran flakes and Malt-O-Meal.
  6. Dried Fruit. Dried fruit is full of vitamin C which is known to help iron to be absorbed in a person’s body. Dried fruit also contains a significant amount of iron based on the type of fruit.
  7. Spinach. Another iron-rich food is spinach. Spinach contains a lot of iron and oxalic acid which binds with iron, helping it absorb.
  8. Mollusks. Mollusks and clams are both great sources of iron. Approximately 3 mg of iron is usually consumed from one serving of either of these two foods.
  9. Artichokes. Artichokes are an iron-rich food to eat that also contains a high amount of calcium, which will help your body absorb the iron. A serving of artichokes provides almost 2 mg of iron.
  10. Wheat Germ. Wheat germ contains approximately 8.5 mg of iron per serving and is great to eat to boost your iron content.
