John Mayer Bio
The John Mayer bio is unique from other musicians because Mayer did not come from a family with an influential musical background. John Mayer was raised near Bridgeport, Connecticut during the 1980s. Many of the celebrities during this time influenced Mayer to follow his dreams of becoming a musician. John Mayer idolized stars such as Michael J. Fox and Jimi Hendrix.
Mayer’s passion to succeed in the music industry began coming to a reality at only the age of sixteen when he began performing at local blues bars and becoming part of a high school band. After the high school band went their separate ways, Mayer then spent time at Boston’s Berklee College of Music, which is where he met his future band mate, Clay Cook. After his stay at Boston’s Berklee College of Music, John Mayer then began to experiment with folk music, which was short-lived.
Upon leaving Boston and relocating to Georgia, Mayer spent a great deal of time writing songs and performing at local nightclubs, while he distributed demos during the day. In 1999, John Mayer self-released his first recording titled “Inside Wants Out,” which promptly earned him a spot to perform at the South by Southwest Music Festival located in Austin, Texas. This performance caught the attention of Columbia Records, which signed him for a record deal after the performance.
John Mayer’s musical career skyrocketed in 2000 when he released his second album, titled “Room for Squares.” With this album, Mayer went on a cross country tour, which only furthered his break into the music industry. In 2003, John Mayer won a Grammy Award for the Best Pop Vocal Performance with his song “Your Body Is A Wonderland.”
