The Kevin Garnett biography would lack substance if his intensity and physical play, even as he is approaching 35 years of age, were not profoundly denoted. This passion for his beloved sport is inspiring to masses of NBA fans.

Kevin Garnett is a power forward for the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association. He was drafted straight out of high school by the Minnesota Timberwolves in 1995 in the 5TH round of the draft. As a prep star, he was named the National Player of the year by the USA Today, as well as Mr. Basketball by the State of Illinois.

At the time of his inaugural season in the NBA, the Minnesota Timberwolves were one of the laughingstocks of the league. However, Garnett’s arrival in the land of 10,000 lakes gave the team hope, as well as notoriety. Garnett steadily improved his numbers each season, and became a dominant force after just two seasons. He was awarded with a 6 year contract in 1998, worth 126 million dollars. This caused quite a stir around the league, and was actually a factor in the lockout shortened season of 1998-1999.

With the aid of pure shooting rookie shooting guard Wally Szcerbiak, Garnett led the Timber wolves to a franchise record 50 wins in the 1999-200 season, but were ousted by the deep and talented Portland Trailblazers 3 games to 1.  However, Garnett continued to pile up numbers. As his team continued to add parts, Garnett became one of the best all around players in the league. He was un-guardable in the low post, as he was quicker than anyone who matched with him  down low, and was deadly out to 18 feet from the outside.

On defense, Garnett is a beast. There have been games where he has had 5 steals, and 8 blocks in one game. His propensity for physical, sometimes even dirty play has players thinking twice before penetrating the paint. In 2003-2004, the Timberwolves had the best record in the NBA at 58-24, and Garnett earned MVP honors. He averaged 24 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 blocks, and 2 steals per game. The ‘Wolves would win their first playoff series by disposing of the Nuggets and Kings, before eventually succumbing to the Lakers the Western Conference Finals.

In 2007, the Timberwolves traded Garnett to the Boston Celtics for players of whom you may have never heard and cash considerations. Garnett joined Paul Pierce and Ray Allen, each of whom were also chasing the Golden Ball. At the end of practices during training camp, Garnett could be seen running suicides, demonstrating his commitment to bringing the NBA trophy to Bean Town for the first time since 1986.

As the leader of a suffocating team defense, Kevin Garnett won defensive player of the year, and the Celtics finished the season with the best record in the Eastern Conference, resulting in the #1 seed. In Game #4 in Los Angeles, the Celtics would come back from 21 points in the 4TH quarter to win the game and go up in the series 3 games to 1. They would conclude the playoffs by beating the Lakers in 6 games, with Garnett memorably holding the trophy and screaming, “Anything is possible.”

Whenever Kevin Garnett decides to walk away from the game of basketball, he will be liked by some, and disliked by others.  However, he will be remembered by all players, fans, coaches, and media as a Hall of Fame basketball player who brought a unique combativeness and intensity that defined his play on both ends of the hardwood.
