Lacrosse Training Tips For Fitness
Running up and down the field can be tiring for even the most conditioned athletes, so utilize these lacrosse training tips for fitness during your next lacrosse practice or drill. These tips should help get you in better shape, while also improving some of the stamina and strength required to become a better lacrosse player.
- Run as much as possible. One of biggest training tips anyone can give you in your lacrosse career is to always be improving your cardiovascular endurance and general fitness. Running is one of the best ways to improve your stamina and endurance, so, if you've got the time, run around your neighborhood, park, or local university to improve your stamina. Make it a personal goal to run around the field at least once after the completion of each lacrosse practice.
- Hit the gym. Lacrosse players don't have to be bulky as football or rugby players, but they normally don't need to be as skinny as tennis players. Complete some leg exercises to increase your maximum running speed or even slightly increase your muscular endurance. Training your upper body can drastically help with improving shooting accuracy and velocity while, like the leg workouts, increasing your muscular endurance.
- Take proper safety precautions. One aspect that many players, and even coaches, forget about is preventing injury. Preventing injury should be the number one priority of lacrosse fitness training, so take this tip with you into all future training activities. Always read or research the proper technique to each workout or drill, so that you can avoid injury and continue in your training activities another day. This includes stretching before AND after all practices.
- Stretch for safety and flexibility. It's important to stretch to avoid injury, but it's also important to stretch consistently to improve flexibility in muscles. Lacrosse players are required to extend their body and muscles in some very intensive bending and exerting. By following this fitness training tip, you should be able to increase your follow through in shots and passes, which can make a substantial impact on the accuracy of your passes and shots.
