Any Lionel Messi biography will demonstrate why he is considered to be one of the best footballers in recent times. Whether you call it football or soccer, Lionel Messi has to be viewed as a great player. Here is some information on the life and career of Lionel Messi.
Early Life. Lionel Messi was born in Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina in 1987. Starting football at the age of five, Messi played on his father's team before playing for his home city's team, Newell's Old Boys in Rosario. Messi was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency that caused him to seek treatment. Unable to find a club to pay for his treatment, his family moved to Spain where FC Barcelona took a look at the prospect. They signed him in 2000 and paid for his medical bills; soon, Messi became a huge talent within the club.
Club Achievements. Lionel Messi became a huge hit at Barcelona, both inside and outside of the locker room. Messi made his first club appearance in the 2003-2004 season, though his first appearance in an official match came in the following season. Barcelona won the championship that year, where Messi became the youngest to score in a La Liga game for the team (seventeen years, ten months, seven days; later broken). Becoming the pride of FC Barcelona, Messi has produced greatly every year with the team. In fact, with one small exception (seventeen to sixteen goals from 2006-2007 to 2007-2008), Messi has improved his goal scoring totals in every year with the team. Messi has played his entire club career with Barcelona.
International Achievements. Messi has unsurprisingly established his legacy at the international level as well. Twice in two years, Messi claimed the World Player of the Year award. From his deput in 2004 for Argentina to his strong play in World Cup and other important tournaments, Messi has led his team and provided reason why he is the best in the world.
