Magnavox TV Troubleshooting: 5 Tips

Looking for 5 Magnavox TV troubleshooting tips? Repair calls can be awfully expensive, so give the tips below a shot first. In most cases, any issues that arise with your Magnavox TV will be very basic in nature, so you don't need to be a tech junkie to use the below troubleshooting tips.

  1. Missing Volume Bar. If the volume bar is not appearing on your Magnavox TV, all you need to do change the OSD settings back to normal. To do this, press Menu on your remote control and then scroll to Setup. From the Setup menu, scroll to Preferences. Once the Preferences menu loads up, you will need to select Menu Preferences. The Menu Preferences submenu will have an OSD settings submenu. Select that submenu and use the up and down buttons to select Normal.
  2. No Picture.  Having no picture on your Magnavox TV can be caused by a variety of issues. The first step in troubleshooting this issue is to check the video cables that connect your device to your Magnavox TV to ensure that they are properly plugged in. Press the Closed Captions button on your remote to make sure it is turned to Off, as some text modes can block the screen. Check to see which input your device is plugged in to, and then press the Input button on your remote to make sure you are on that input mode.
  3. No Sound.  While this may sound basic, if your Magnavox TV has no sound, first make sure that you have not pressed Mute on your remote control and that the volume is set to a reasonable level. Make sure that there are no headphones connected to your Magnavox TV. The sound on your Magnavox TV will automatically be turned off if no video signal is detected. Take a look at the red and white audio cables that connect your device to your Magnavox TV to make sure they are firmly plugged into the correct input jacks.
  4. Remote Control. If your Magnavox TV will not respond to your remote control, you should first try placing a fresh set of batteries in to the remote. If you are using rechargeable batteries, a full charge typically takes 6 hours. Using a soft, microfiber cloth, clean the sensor on your Magnavox TV and on your remote. Your remote may not work if you are trying to use it more than 20 feet away from your Magnavox TV.
  5. Missing Channels. In the event that you do not have your Magnavox TV connected to a cable or satellite receiver, you will need to Autoprogram your television to find any missing channels. To do this, press the Menu button on your remote control, scroll to Installation, and press the cursor right button. You will then need to select the Autoprogram submenu and press OK. Select either Cable or Antenna and then press the green button on your remote control to proceed to the next screen. To start the Autoprogram, press the green button again.
