Mario Kart Wii Characters

The best Mario Kart Wii characters are often those that provide the most extreme changes to the chosen kart. Different characters provide better choices for different skill levels and play styles, and work better on certain courses. While these Mario Kart characters provide the best performance for their areas of expertise, you may still wish to switch your choice for some tracks and against certain opponents. Remember that your character choice modifies the kart's statistics, but that the kart will still affect how the character handles.

  1. Baby Mario/Baby Luigi. Although they don't look it, Baby Mario and Baby Luigi provide the biggest weight stat bonus to their karts, allowing you to plow through other players, and preventing other karts from knocking you around. These characters are the best choice if your opponents constantly jostle your kart, especially on courses with precipitous drops and narrow bridges. While providing the same weight bonus, Baby Mario gives players a handling increase, and Baby Luigi provides a speed increase, so you can use their other talents to round out your kart choice.
  2. Dry Bones. Dry Bones provides a bonus to the kart's drift and turbo stats. While other characters share this combination of bonuses, Dry Bones' turbo bonus is the largest of the bunch. Since successful drifts grant turbo boosts, Dry Bones is the best character for players with the skills to continually boost through the course. Unlock Dry Bones by winning the Leaf Cup in 100cc class.
  3. Mii. The Mii character comes in three versions and appears as a customized Wii avatar. The small, medium and large Miis each have several stat bonuses that work well with their corresponding kart class, making them the best all-around characters to practice with specific kart types. You need to beat the Special Cup in 100cc before unlocking the Miis for use.
  4. Baby Daisy. Baby Daisy is the best character for players purely concerned with speed. While Funky Kong matches her speed bonus, Baby Daisy's turbo increase allows players to squeeze an extra bit of velocity out of their kart. She also adds a significant weight bonus, allowing her to plow through competitors without slowing down. Choose a kart with good handling if you have trouble keeping Baby Daisy on the road. Unlock Baby Daisy by finishing all the Grand Prix Cups in 50cc with a one star rating or better.
