Meg Whitman Biography
Few people in history have become Ivy League graduates, CEOs of corporations worth billions, and politicians. But there is one woman who has done all of that, and so much more. This is the Biography of Meg Whitman, the corporate titan.
Whitman was born on August 4th, 1956, in Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island. After high school, Whitman attended Princeton University, studying mathematics and physics, hoping to attend med school after gradation. Things changed for Whitman when she worked for a magazine one summer, selling copies, she decided to change her major to economics, and received her Bachelor's degree in 1977. After Princeton, Whitman went off to earn her Master's degree from Harvard Business school in 1979.
Two years her graduation from Harvard, Meg Whitman became the vice president of strategic planning for The Walt Disney corporation. In March of 1998, Whitman joined Ebay, and soon became its CEO. As CEO, Whitman made some drastic changes to the small corporation with a very large dream. Ebay started out as a small company of 30 employees and a revenue of 4 million USD. Under Whitman's leadership, the site received better server maintenance, more specific add-ons that tailored to customer preferences, and became 15,000 employees strong, with a revenue of now 8 billion USD.
In 2007, Whitman left her office as CEO of Ebay, and two years later, decided to run for the Governer's seat of California. Whitman has long identified herself as a republican, and is known for being a staunch defender of her political positions. Her most notable plans as governor are, the suspension of the Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006, the support of 'Proposition 8', support for abortion rights, and the continued illegalization of marijuana.
Few people have the talent or the guts to do what she does, and whether or not people may agree with her methods, none can fault her for not being brave enough to do what she thinks is best.
