Trying to locate the information about men’s gymnastics history requires deep research because this activity has been around since countries established a military to protect them. Researchers have indicated that the men’s sport could be over 2,000 years old. Several countries used gymnastic techniques to train and prepare men soldiers for war. Let’s read on to find out more information about men’s gymnastics history.

 776 B.C.–393 A. D. Men’s gymnastics history can be traced back to ancient activity sports.  Early history reveals that men were awarded the olive leaf for winning a contest. The games were different from the games played today. For example, men did running, jumping, swinging and acrobatic maneuvers during competitions. However, religion had a powerful effect on men’s gymnastics and the sport faded in 393 A.D. Today, there is swimming and snow skiing events and may other gymnastic sports.

1830-1896. As men became more informed about men’s gymnastics history, the sport became popular in American schools. For instance, men such as Charles Follen and Charles Beck explained the concepts of gymnastics and schools throughout the United States began to teach men gymnastics at almost all academic levels. In 1896 Athens Greece, hosted the first event that included several countries. Men used the pommel horse, rings, and the horizontal bar to compete for the prize.

1903- Present. Take notes because the world’s first competition in men’s gymnastic history took place in 1904 in St. Louis. However, the first world championship may have taken place in 1903 in a city called Antwerp, Belgium. Keep in mind that the first women’s gymnastics events did not start until 1928. Presently sport spectators are now able to see a broad jump, a pole vault, and track and field events from all around the world, so we can say that men’s gymnastic history seems to always be changing.
