  1. Limber up and stretch before working the heavy bag. Ensure you are properly taped and your gloves are fitted. Start out with jabs against the heavy bag. You want to strike with the front facing of your glove. Strikes are solid and straight into the heavy bag.
  2. Increase the intensity and switch off hands as if you were boxing. Work the midsection of the bag with hard strikes. Work rotations from heavy shots to jabs using both hands.
  3. You can also practice hammer fist from a side position. Step to one side of the bag and use the pinkie side of your fist to strike the bag. Hammer fists should be quick heavy strikes. Work in a routine and continue this as part of your training.

It is important to be in your fighting gear and to be properly conditioned when working a heavy bag. This will give you the best feel.
