The most dangerous cities in America are the remnants of once flourishing places where people lived, worked, and played. Today, people visit the most dangerous cities in America during the day to work, or for its attractions, but return to the safety of their homes in the suburbs at night. The following are dangerous cities in America where gangs, drugs, murders, and robberies have become entrenched in its framework. 

1. St. Louis, Missouri. According to FBI data, this perennial crime contender moved up the list this year to No. 1. The six crime categories that make up the final rankings are assault, murder, rape, motor vehicle theft, robbery, and burglary per 100,000 people. The composite crime rankings for St. Louis resulted in its No. 1 ranking.
2. Camden, New Jersey. This dangerous American city leads the nation in the violent crimes of rape and robbery, second in assaults, and fourth in murder. Not only are the residents strapped for cash, so is the city resulting in the layoff of 167 police officers.  
3. Detroit, Michigan. Detroit is a snapshot of what happens when the city’s major industry leaves town along many of its residents for the suburbs. A city with limited fiscal funds, high jobless rate has allure for the criminal element.  
4. Flint, Michigan. Flint, the birthplace of automaker giant General Motors, now has many citing high unemployment as one of the reasons for high crime ranking. Flint ranks No. 1 in assaults and No. 2 in burglaries. 
5. Oakland, California. Oakland ranks No. 1 nationally in motor vehicle thefts, followed closely by robberies at No. 5. Oakland’s high crime rate has been cited as an offshoot of its elevated unemployment rate.  
6. Richmond, California. Richmond ranks nationally at No. 3 in murders and No. 4 in motor vehicle thefts. This dangerous city scores a trifecta for prime crime environment: gangs, drugs, unemployment.
7. Cleveland, Ohio. Cleveland ranks nationally No. 2 in robberies and No. 9 in rapes. No, the city has not returned to heydays of organized crime, but its inclusion on this list is not a job recruitment tool.    
8. Compton, California. Compton nationally ranks No. 7 in rapes and No. 9 in assaults. This is California’s third entry in the most dangerous city in America lineup.
9. Gary, Indiana. Gary nationally ranks No. 2 in murders. This is a textbook case of urban blight where large segments of the city population have fled to the suburbs taking with them a stable tax base and jobs.
10. Birmingham, Alabama. Birmingham nationally ranks No. 12 in murders and No. 8 in rapes. And, a city in the Deep South rounds out the top ten most dangerous cities in America making. 

In the ten most dangerous cities in America, a segment of the population has turned to predator robbing, raping, murdering, and assaulting members of their own communities. The excuses for this predatory mentality are many, but are any valid reasons for the victimization of another human being?
