MySpace Vs Facebook

Social networking sites have become a trend today and while there are many people who sign up for each and every available site, there is always the tendency to frequent  one site more often than the other An example of this is MySpace Vs Facebook. MySpace tends to attract the younger generations, while Facebook attracts those of all ages.

Who uses them?

In the beginning, MySpace was more frequented by teenagers whereas Facebook, by college students, because of the need to have a college email address to sign up. However, as the years passed, this targeted audience could already be found on both sites.

What differentiates MySpace and Facebook from each other though is the type of professionals making use of the site. One may find that users who are more active on the former are those who lean more to the creative careers. This involves musicians, fashion designers and comedians. Those who are into the computer or business field may like Facebook more, where head hunters frequent in order to look for the right people for the job.

What features do they have?

It would be a pointless thing to argue which of the two social networking sites takes the lead in providing better applications. Facebook introduces new applications to its users on a regular basis, many of which can help in professional networking. In fact, many of their communications widgets could already be considered cutting-edge by today’s standards. If you would rather go for simplicity, then you might want to stick to MySpace.

How far can your creativity stretch?

The downside with using Facebook is perhaps the limited access to design one’s own profile page, even with its numerous applications. MySpace, on the other hand, allows one to completely alter the profile page so that it becomes unique and truly one’s own. Those who love to stretch one’s creativity to the limits might find MySpace a better site.

Can I join cliques?

Keeping in touch with old friends and making new ones is possible on both sites by creating and joining groups. This allows a person to directly get in touch with people who share the same passion and interests as you do.

MySpace provides ease in joining groups because they are easier to find and are grouped under specific categories. On the other hand, Facebook would alert you of which groups your friends have recently joined, from which you might want to be part of yourself.

Will I be bothered with spam messages?

Until recently, users do not have to deal with as much headache with spam in Facebook compared to MySpace. Sometimes, MySpace profiles are hacked and viruses with links to adult sites are spread all over the site. Facebook spam messages do not usually spread unless the link is clicked.

What does the news say?

Despite the spam problems, there are really not much bad things to say about MySpace. Sure, there was news about a teenage girl who met a boy who was actually a much older man who wanted to do her harm but this problem could actually happen on any social networking site. It practically needs common sense for one to stay out of harm and trouble.

Facebook had to deal with some privacy issues that people complained about over the years. For example, shopping preferences were being made public, which made users feel that their privacy had been violated.

Preference

In the end, it all boils down to preference.. Both sites have their own pros and cons with which the users will have to weigh in a subjective manner. Sites like these can stay out of trend eventually so while it is still hot, make sure that you make full use of it and develop long-lasting connections, especially professional ones which could eventually help you in your career.
