Peyton Manning Salary
Evaluating Peyton Manning's salary, one of the biggest superstars in the National Football League, focuses on not only how much the Indianapolis Colts are paying their superstar, but the various endorsement deals that the superstar regularly participates in. Not only is Payton Manning a staple in football, he's a staple in advertising programs for products like Oreo, Sprint, Gatorade, DirecTV, the American Red Cross and MasterCard, among other smaller companies and brands. With so many sponsors, it’s hard to imagine having a better supplement for an employee's daily income!
Payton Manning’s current salary. In March 2004, Payton Manning signed a deal with the Indianapolis Colts that was reportedly worth approximately 99.2 million dollars over a span of seven years with a signing bonus of 34.5 million. This amount of money was unheard of at the time. At this amount, Peyton Manning was the most well-compensated player in NFL history. This amount of money shows both the importance of the quarterback position in the NFL but the Colts’ desire to keep their superstar in his prime. The Colts' investment paid off for them when they won the Superbowl in 2007, defeating the Chicago Bears. Manning is also the holder of many passing records for the Colts and the NFL. He’s also the record-holder of NFL MVPs with four awards.
Issues that face the superstar in the future. For Manning, at 35 the superstar does face issues in an uncertain NFL labor situation without a contract for the 2011 season. As an older quarterback, he may not have faced the wear and tear that others of his age in different positions may have faced, butut he certainly isn’t on the upside of his career. In all likelihood, don’t expect to be seeing this Colts icon playing for another team. Instead, expect to see him again become the highest paid player in the NFL. With endorsements deals and more gas left in the tank, don’t expect to see Manning fall off the wage or skill scale any time soon.
