Private Student Loans Without Cosigner

Many college students find themselves relying on private student loans without co-signer. A co-signer's purpose is to ensure that the company loaning the money has some way of getting their money back in the future. In many cases, students may not have someone willing to cosign on a loan for them. In these cases, it may be more difficult to get a loan, but it can be done. Here are a few steps that will teach you how to do this without any difficulty.

To get private student loans without a co-signer, you will need:

  • Copies of all your financial documents (tax returns, bank statements, credit card bills and other loans)
  • Letter of recommendation
  • Completed FAFSA application
  1. If you do not have copies of your financial information, you should do this first. Having copies of your federal income tax return, credit card bills and bank statements will give lenders an idea about your financial situation. Loaning money to people who typically need co-signers can be incredibly risky, which is why they check all bases before moving on to the next step.
  2. Get a letter of recommendation from your employeer. If you are a responsible and hard-working employee, these are things your employeer should highlight in the letter. This allows lenders to know you will have a steady job, hence a steady income.
  3. Go to your bank or the lender and inform them that you are interested in a private student loan without a co-signer. They will inform you on the necessary steps needed to make this happen. They may ask that you give them permission to access your credit information and history.
  4. Go online to complete the FAFSA to qualify for other private student loans without a co-signer. You will need your financial documents to complete this online application.

Wait to hear back from the bank to see whether or not you have been approved for a private student loan. If your financial situation is concrete, there is a higher chance you will be approved for the loan.
