Pro Ping Pong Techniques
There are many different pro ping pong techniques that allow the best ping pong players to become even better and beat back their opponents at all levels. These pro ping pong techniques involve every aspect of the game of ping pong, from the serve to the return to the footwork and the head game. By following the pro ping pong techniques listed below you will be able to perfect different aspects of your ping pong game to make you a more well-rounded player and hopefully, one day, a true professional yourself.
You will need:
- Ping Pong Table
- Ping Pong Paddles
- Variety of Opponents
- Mixing Up Serves. Serving is one of the most important part of the pro ping pong game, as it immediately sets an opponent back on their heels and forces them to play your game. Pro ping pong players practice a wide variety of serves so that their opponents don't know what type of ball they are going to serve to them next. Practice these different serves, ranging from a serve with back spin that makes it almost impossible for your opponent to return accurately; to a serve that is hard, fast and deep on the table and can catch an opponent off guard.
- Close and Long Shots. It is important for pro ping pong players to be able to control the distance of their shots on their opponents side of the table, as the more they can make their opponent move, the better chance they will make a mistake or set you up for a shot that will score you a point. So practice hitting shots deep at the back line, or lobbing them up close, just over the net, so that your opponent has to adjust their game regularly.
- Practice Footwork. Many people may not realize how much conditioning is needed to be a pro ping pong player, but if you want to play the game at the highest levels, you will have to be fast on your feet. Practice moving from side to side in a semi-crouched position so that you can stay balanced and in control when you hit or return shots. Practice hitting the ping pong balls against half the ping pong table, so that they come back at you quickly, upping your reaction time.
- Work on Your Head Game. While you may have the best pro ping pong skills in the world, you can't use these skills unless you can keep your head and focus in the game. So play a lot, against all types of opponents. Learn to keep your cool and concentrate on each point in each part of the game. Being psychologically sound is one of the most important pro ping pong techniques you can have.
