Since the internet has gradually become a necessity for everybody, protecting your privacy online is a must. Regardless of what your internet user level is, there is a random chance for you to get hacked! Speaking out as a victim of hacking, it is extremely troublesome to deal with the situation. In order to avoid this disaster, I am going to provide you the following 3 great tips on protecting your privacy online.

  1. Log off your account when not using it. It does not matter what you are using, email, online banking, social media network, auction, etc., you should always sign out of your account once you are finished using it. Most of the financial institutions provide the automatic log off feature if they detect any inactivity on your account. Nevertheless, you should always make account logoff a habit when using any type of accounts. This habit can protect your privacy online directly in a long run.
  2. Change your passwords regularly. It is strongly recommended for you to create new passwords because some hackers can easily recognize your current passwords, especially if you have them for awhile. When changing them, make sure that they are a mixture of numbers, alphabets, and symbols. Keep in mind that if the passwords are too simple, you are allowing the hackers to access your privacy online without efforts.
  3. Verify website's origin if it looks suspicious. You are searching for this particular item you are about to purchase. You click on the first website link from the search results. When you arrive at this website, a pop up box then comes up asking for your social security number and date of birth. It says if you decline to enter the information, you will not be able to make your purchase. Something does not sound right! Before giving your personal information away, find out if this website is a legal business or not. Your privacy online will be jeopardized if you deal with a illegal business.
