Pulled Calf Muscle Symptoms

  1. Identify your pulled calf muscle pain. This is the first step to determine if your calf muscle is injured. Look for pains in and around the calf area. The pain may start out mild, and you may be able to perform your daily duties. Unfortunately, the pain may become worse after a couple of days especially when you try to walk or run. In some cases after a pulled calf muscle, you may experience sharp pain that keeps you from performing your daily chores.
  2. Look at the area where you are experiencing pain. You may see discoloration or bruising, which usually occur due to broken blood vessels. Look also for swelling and inflammation around the calf muscle area.
  3. Listen for popping sounds. If you hear a popping sound, this is an indication that you have pulled a calf muscle. The calf muscle may become stiff and weak and limits your ability to move around as normal. In some case, these symptoms are apparent immediately, and in others, they may become apparent a few days later. If you experience a full rupture, you may see a knot at the top of your calf.  Left untreated these symptoms will get worse.

Treat your pulled calf muscle symptoms as soon as possible. Do this by using a compression bandage or use cold therapy as soon as possible to alleviate the pain as well as any internal bleeding. Consult your medical provider if the pain gets worse or if you have any other concerns.
