Pump Action Paintball Guns
What are pump action paintball guns? This is a paintball gun which uses the pumping action of sliding a handgrip rearwards and forwards to chamber a paintball. In gas operated mechanisms, the gas is used to work the bolt to load a paintball. This happens very fast which means that each shot occurs faster, in some cases fully automatic, meaning as fast as they can be loaded without having to move your trigger finger.
Why would anyone wish to use a pump action when they are slower? There are several reasons. First, some pump action paintball guns are cheaper and are often an introductory step into paintball guns. Next, they can be cheaper to operate. Using the gas only to shoot the ball and not work the action, they are more efficient. They also are less wasteful of paintballs, being more deliberate in their firing system. Remember, though, if you choose a pump action paintball gun, you are putting yourself at a definite speed disadvantage which may be hard to overcome in the heat of battle. Lastly, there are some very realistic pump action paintball guns which are almost exact copies of real military and police shotguns. These are often used as training aids to the real firearms.
There are various types of pump action paintball guns, something to fit almost all budgets, but here are a few examples.
- Splatmatic pump action paintball gun $40- This is an introductory gun for those starting in paintball or for those who simply wish to use the paintball marker for its original purpose, marking distant objects for some purpose. It is not as durable as many better paintball guns.
- Tippman SL-68 II $170 - This is a high quality pump action paintball gun for those who prefer the pump action over other designs. Tippman has made a name for itself for quality products at reasonable prices. This one does not disappoint that reputation.
- Umarex RAM 68-18 Shotgun - This is a realistic copy of the modern combat/tactical shotgun which instead shoots .68 caliber paintballs and is powered by two twelve gram C02 cartridges. The shotgun is used by police departments and militaries. This version provides excellent non-lethal practice for real combat scenarios. The Umarex shotgun has many of the same options as the modern combat shotgun, such as adjustable stock, battle sights, and rails for combat accessories. This is a realistic training aid.
