The loss gave Santos the Strikeforce Women's Lightweight Championship, the first of its kind.

As Carano built her reputation as a top-notch MMA fighter, she was also becoming a television celebrity, joining the remake of the popular television show "American Gladiators."  "Crush", as she was known on the show, was a favorite on the series, which started in 2008.

Also outside of the ring, Carano has done quite a bit of modeling, including a feature at sixteenth on "Maxim's" Hot 100 list in 2009.  Rumors spread shortly thereafter that the MMA star would be dropping her robe for a nude spread in "Playboy," however Carano made it clear that was not in the works.  She did however go on to grace one of several covers of "ESPN The Magazine" as part of their body series of issues.
