The events at the Hockey Olympics 2010 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, were some of the most exciting events of the Winter Games. The two tournaments featured twelve men's hockey teams and eight women's teams from thirteen countries. The games of the 2010 Winter Olympics ice hockey tournament were held at Canada Hockey Place and the Winter Sports Centre of the University of British Columbia.

The women's ice hockey tournament was dominated by two teams-Canada and the United States. Throughout preliminary round play, these two teams outscored opponents seventy-two to three; the other six teams scored 33 goals combined. After the preliminary round, the hockey teams left fighting for Olympic medals were Canada, Sweden, the US and Finland.

The medal round semifinal saw Canada defeat Finland five to zero and the US beat Sweden nine to one, setting up the gold and bronze medal games. In the bronze medal match, Finland defeated Sweden three to two, while Canada was victorious over the US, two to zero, for the gold medal in women's ice hockey at the 2010 Winter Olympics.

The men's ice hockey tournament featured a number of National Hockey League stars, an element added to the Winter Games in 1998. While Team Canada, with superstars Sidney Crosby, Martin Brodeur and Jarome Iginla among others, was expected to dominate the men's Olympic ice hockey tournament, they were surprised in the preliminary round by an upstart US team that beat Canada in head-to-head competition, five to three, and took the automatic bye into the playoff round.

The four teams that qualified for the medal round in men's ice hockey at the 2010 Winter Olympics were Canada, the United States, Finland and Slovakia. In the bronze medal game, Finland defeated Slovakia 5 to 3. In the gold medal game, on the final day of Olympic competition, Team Canada defeated Team USA three to two in overtime.
