Relpax side effects do not affect all of the medication's users, but they can be anything from minor to serious in nature. Relpax is the name of a prescription medication that is used for the treatment of migraine headaches and their various symptoms, including intense head pain (typically on just one side of the head), sound and light sensitivity, feelings of nausea and throwing up. The generic name for the drug is eletriptan.
- Relpax can cause a variety of common side effects. Migraine sufferers that take Relpax frequently experience side effects such as sleepiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, feeling weaker than normal, bizarre sensations (pricking, burning and tingling), dry mouth, tightness, pressure or aching of the chest, pain of the throat, neck or jaw, mild headache, abdominal pain, heartburn, skin warmth or redness, tightness of the throat and having difficulty swallowing. In general, these effects are not considered to be serious, as they tend to fade away quickly.
- Apart from the most frequent possible side effects, Relpax also often brings upon possibilities including excessive sweating, raised sensitivity towards senses (such as sound and light), chills, backache, heart palpitations and spinning sensations. Although still relatively common, these effects are not as typical as the aforementioned ones.
- In rare instances, Relpax can also trigger harmful side effects. Severe side effects of the migraine medicine are vision, balance and speech disturbances, the toes and fingers turning pale or blue in color, sudden feelings of weakness or numbness (especially if it is just on one side of the body), heaviness of the chest and general malaise. For people that are taking Relpax alongside antidepressants (including Paxil and Zoloft), other severe effects are possible, like overactive reflexes, muscle spasms, fever, hallucinations, pounding or rapid heartbeat and agitation.
- Signs of allergic reaction are also dangerous possibilities with Relpax. In situations of allergic reaction, it is vital to get emergency medical help as soon as possible. Allergic reaction signs include hives, itchiness, unusual skin rashes, swelling and shortness of breath.
