There are many risks associated with drinking and smoking. Some are very common ones that most people definitely know about, and some are less commonly known and talked about. You all know that there are dangers linked to both of these, but what are all of the total risks? Below are the many risks of drinking and smoking short term and long term.

Short term risks of smoking. The short term risks of smoking are not likely to do any damage to your body immediately, but will later on down the line. Short term risks include increased heart rate, blood pressure, stomach acids and fat and cholesterol dispositions in the blood vessels.

Long term risks of smoking. Long term risks of smoking not only include making you uglier the longer you smoke, but can bring your body closer to death as well. When it comes to looks, smoking long term causes wrinkling and the premature aging of skin. Not only this, smoking long term increases your risks of many things such as coronary heart disease, chronic bronchitis and cancer of the larynx. For all you men out there that love your muscles, smoking long term also decreases muscle tone, permanently. That's a lot of damage for a smoke.

Short term risks of drinking. There are seven main short term effects of alcohol, which include: lowered inhibition, poor coordination, blackouts and loss of memory, nausea sickness due to drinking too much alcohol, hangovers, stupor, and alcohol induced comas, if you're not careful.

Long term risks of drinking. There are many permanent effects that can take place after alcohol is used consistently over a long period of time. Long term heavy drinkers experience all the symptoms listed above, and are often affected by tingling and loss of sensation in the hands and feet, muscle weakness and loss of muscle tissue and extreme liver damage. Alcohol also damages the brain dramatically. It can give the brain permanent brain cell damage, loss of memory, confusion, and disturbed sleep patterns. When it comes to the sexual organs, men can also experience impotence and decreased sperm count, while females can experience irregular periods and fertility problems.
