Second Date Rules

Like all dating rules, second date rules can be tricky to figure out. The first date went well enough that you want to go out again, but you may not be sure when to call and ask her, what you should say on the date and where you should go. If you follow these second date rules, you'll most likely have an enjoyable second date and maybe even a third or fourth one, too.

  1. Don't wait too long to call her. But don't call her for a second date the morning after the first. Head to work in the morning, run your errands and then call her the next night to ask her out. Do not text or e-mail her. You'll be able to gauge whether or not she really wants to go out on a second date better if you call her.
  2. Offer to pay. It does not reflect well on you if you ask a woman out and then ignore the check or ask her to pay half. Once you get deeper into the relationship you can talk more about splitting costs, but definitely pick up the check on the second date.
  3. Don't pressure your date. Some people are ready to go on the second date if they weren't on the first. Some people don't even like to kiss on the second date. Read your date's signals and body language to figure out what she is up for, if anything.
  4. Keep it light. Let your date get to know you, but don't delve too deep into any problems you have on this first date. Don't start talking about your hopes for children or marriage. It's not only guys who can get scared off when a woman comes on too strong. Girls can get freaked out if they think a guy is expecting too much from them.
