In order to be successful these days it is important to have a good social media marketing strategy for business. People are turning to social media more and more for a lot of their information and advice. Don't lose out on potential business by ignoring this important outlet.

  1. Use pictures. Consumers are not only turning to social media sites for information, but they also want to see what they are researching. Pictures and videos can go a long way in adding value to your site and the success of your social media marketing. If you are selling a service videos can show step by step instructions or tips.
  2. Combine off line advertising with online advertising. Use offline advertising to promote your online presence. Make sure your link to your Facebook and Twitter pages is prominently placed in offline ads. Give consumers any chance they can to join your online communities.
  3. Understand the different social media sites. Make sure you know the differences of what is acceptable and expected from the different sites. Your message should be customized for each site. Your Facebook message should be different from your Twitter message, as long as you keep your brand the same.
  4. Use local social networks. This is especially important for small businesses. Their local customer base can make a huge difference so it is important to make sure you are a part of social media networks that cater to local businesses. You should also make sure your business has been added to Google Map, and other large scale mapping companies.
  5. Run contests through social media sites. Make sure your page on the social media sites stay updated. A good strategy is to run contests and discounts for your community members. Make it interesting so your online followers compete against each other and possibly bring others in to compete as well.
