Sports Bars NYC

The best sports bars in NYC have to be fan friendly and affordable to appeal to New Yorkers, some of the most rabid sports fans in America. While many lifelong New Yorkers might be content to watch the Giants play at their friends' houses, others like their neighborhood sports bar the best. The type of sports bar that city dwellers like often depends on their favorite team and their borough. New York city residents who root for the Mets tend to frequent different hangouts than those who root for the Yankees, for example.

  1. 40/40 Club - Owned by hip-hop mogul Jay-Z, the 40/40 Club is located at the corner of Broadway and 6th Avenue in Manhattan. This NYC sports bar is named after Major League baseball players who have hit 40 home runs and stolen 40 bases in a single season. While the name might sound casual, the atmosphere is strictly professional. The club's dress code prohibits sneakers, baseball caps, and sports jerseys, which is quite ironic for a spot owned by a rapper. Despite the possible contradictions, the 40/40 Club is a sleek, stylish place to watch a few dozen sporting events. 6 West 25th Street, New York, NY 10001
  2. SideBar - Situated in Union Square, SideBar is a New York City sports bar with a decidedly lounge feel. The bar serves daily Happy Hour specials, but also serves up fancier versions of basic pub food such as foie gras deviled eggs. Patrons can watch sports on nine flat screens, including two projection televisions. As a bonus, guests who visit SideBar on their birthdays can drink for free. 118 East 15th Street, New York, NY 10003
  3. The Village Pourhouse - Multiple flat screen televisions and more than 100 varieties of beer make The Village Pourhouse one of the best sports bars in NYC. The audience tends to be mostly college-aged, so this atmosphere might be a bit rowdy for some, but the lively atmosphere keeps this downtown spot entertaining. On weekends, a local disc jockey spins tunes while patrons dance. 64 3rd Avenue, New York, NY 10003
  4. The HorseBox - Sports lovers who don't have a lot of cash to spend might enjoy watching the game at The Horsebox in the East Village. This sports bar has televisions all over the place and a full slate of drinks to choose from. While The Horsebox doesn't have a kitchen, the staff does provide guests with menus for eating establishments that deliver to the bar. 218 Avenue A, New York, NY 10009
  5. 4th Down - Some might think that a sports bar with the name "4th Down" is biased towards football only, but they'd be wrong. At this Williamsburg bar, guests can watch just about any sporting event on several wide-screen televisions. Even better, the bar has air hockey, pool, and skeeball for patrons that want to get in on the sporting action themselves. The bar doesn't provide food for customers, though, so guests should only stop by after they've already eaten for the night. 170 North 4th Street, New York, NY 11211
