Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace Characters
"Star Wars" is one of the most popular movie series of all time and the release of "Episode I: The Phantom Menace" brought new characters and old favorites to the big screen from a galaxy far, far away. From Jedi warriors to Sith lords to bumbling Gungans, the characters of "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace" were powerful and memorable.
- Anakin Skywalker It is difficult to believe this young, mechanically-inclined podracer will grow up to become the evil Darth Vader. In "The Phantom Menace" Anakin and his mother, Shmi, are slaves on Tatooine. Anakin is discovered to be Force-sensitive when he crosses paths with Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn.
- Qui-Gon Jinn This powerful Jedi master is Obi-Wan Kenobi's master and the man who discovers Skywalker. In "The Phantom Menace," Jinn detours to Tatooine while escaping Naboo with Queen Amidala for repairs and comes upon the young boy whom he is able to free from slavery and bring to the Jedi Council as the possible "Chosen One."
- Obi-Wan Kenobi The Obi-Wan we see in "The Phantom Menace" is a young padawan, headstrong at times but dedicated to his master. Kenobi's life would change forever when he becomes a Jedi knight and accepts Skywalker as his padawan learner.
- Padme Amidala, Queen of Naboo. Queen Amidala is in the middle of a trade blockade when we first see her in "The Phantom Menace." Queen Amidala is a powerful young woman, trained to be a leader of the people and elected queen at age fourteen. She is manipulated, however, by Naboo's Senate representative, Senator Palpatine.
- Senator Palpatine Palpatine is Naboo's senator during the Trade Federation's embargo of Naboo. Little does anyone know at the time that he is engineering a takeover of the Senate and the galaxy.
- Darth Sidious and Darth Maul Sidious, the Sith lord, and Maul, his lone apprentice, are hidden from the galaxy until the timing to reveal themselves is perfect.
- Jar Jar Binks A bumbling Gungan outcast from Otoh Gunga, an underwater city on Naboo, Binks turns out to be a valuable part of the Battle of Naboo, helping ally the Gungans and the Naboo against the Trade Federation.
