Stockholm Street Style
Stockholm street style is eclectic. As Sweden’s capital, Stockholm is the center of urban fashion. Men and women walking its streets have fashion sensibilities that range from the unconventional to classic, elegant style.
Colorful Doc Martens. DMs are remnants of the grunch music era but unlike the music, Doc Martens remain alive to this day. In Stockholm, bright yellow DMs are street headliners.
Studded Leather Jacket. Some of the fashionable men seen sauntering in Stockholm pair their faux-hawks with studded leather jackets. Throw in some cool sneakers, then you’re good.
Skinny Jeans. A favorite in Stockholm as it is in other big cities like New York and Paris, skinny jeans should be a closet staple. You can dress it up or down as Swedes do. Fashionable women pair it with faux fur and expensive boots.
Luscious Red Lips. Winter in this Scandinavian city does not mean you have to look pale as a vampire. A good red lipstick is a good way to stand out in the cold streets.
Gaudy Tights and Open-Toed Sandals. Although not exactly high fashion, Stockholm’s streets accommodate women in baggy ankle-length jeans with bright colored tights, such as an eye blinding yellow, worn with leather open toed platform sandals.
Pea Coats. A pea coat is a classic and can be worn in fall, winter and spring. Neutral colors in dark blue or black are safe but some men and women prefer to stand out from the crowd in bright green or red pea coats.
Plaid Pants with Sneakers. Stylish street wear is diverse and Swedish men are comfortable in plaid pants paired with sneakers, a nice coat and cool sunglasses.
Beret. Whether it’s summer, spring or fall, a wool or hand-knitted beret is a fashion statement in Stockholm. A beret can be worn in different seasons and for men, it can cover that bald spot.
Choker. Simple, elegant and a great accessory, the classic choker is a must-have accessory for Swedish women. Women in Stockholm wear chokers ranging from expensive leather that cover the whole neck to the classic mother of pearl.
Leopard Print Pants. Shunned in the past for being a fashion mishap, leopard prints never really left the scene and is beloved by women in Stockholm. Leopard printed pants or tights are usually paired with a nice plain-colored top to complement the loudness of the print.
