Learn about strategies to stop leaking money with these easy tips that you can do in your everyday life. Often times people don't have the slightest clue of why their hard earned money is gone so quickly. Many families and individuals find themselves living paycheck-to-paycheck. These simple strategies can hundreds of dollars a month with very little effort.

  1. Track your expenses. Tracking your money is truly the only way to get your expenses under control. Take a couple of weeks to write down every penny you spend so that you know where your money is going. Then you can figure out where you can make improvements in your budget.
  2. Pay the bills on time. It's understandable that sometimes things come up and you can't pay your bills right away, but putting them off takes more money out of your pocket. Companies usually offer a grace period in which you have time to get the money together. If you are unable to pay the amount due contact the company and work with them to avoid late fees and overage charges.
  3. Pay off credit cards. Credit cards are the most common culprits for money leaks. Credit card companies love it when you pay late. Not only do you still have to pay the amount due, but they are able to tack on more interest because of late fees. If you go over your limit you will pay fees for that too. So pay off the cards and cut them up. The best way to buy something is to pay with cash. It will help save you money every month and keep you out of debt.
  4. Stop air leaks. Air leaks in your home could cost you hundreds of dollars every year in heating and cooling expenses. Air leaks can be easily fixed and are surprisingly inexpensive to deal with. Check around doors, windows and electrical outlets to feel for air. If there is any air coming in, you can bet that it is also going out, along with your money. Hardware stores carry foam sealants and insulation that are easy to install and will help save you money.
  5. Care for your car. Don't let your tires get low on air. It is bad for gas mileage and bad for your pocket book. Even something as little as an oil change every 3,000 miles can save you the thousands of dollars it would take to fix your engine.
  6. Get rid of services you don't use. With your busy life, do you honestly have the time to watch all 250 channels, plus the premium stations that your cable company offers you? Or do you really use three-way calling every day? Letting go of services you rarely or never use can save you from leaking money every month.
  7. Only wash full loads. When you wash laundry and dishes, make sure that the loads are full before you start a new wash cycle. Also, it is more energy efficient to wash clothes in cold water.

It might be difficult at first to keep track of a budget or go without those extra channels, but after one month you will have adjusted and won't even notice it. What you will notice, is that you are not leaking as much money, thanks to these easy strategies. Imagine not having to live month to month, paycheck to paycheck because you were able to make these simple changes.
