Using some simple stress management tips can help a person to relieve anxiety and to become more productive. Failure to properly manage stress can cause a person to have problems at home and at work. As the problems continue to grow, the person will suffer more stress which can eventually cause mental and physical health issues.

  1. Identify what is causing the stress to occur. This is the most important stress management tip since you will be able to isolate the cause of the problem. While it is sometimes good to have stress since it can motivate you to reach a goal, if you think your source of stress is a negative you must take steps to alleviate the problem. If the stress is work related, discuss the cause with your boss and find a way to mutually resolve the issue.
  2. Change the way you think to help manage stress. If you tend to see the negative in every situation, try and find a way to locate some positives before you raise your stress level. Take a step-by-step approach to resolving an issue instead of trying to reach the end right away. Write down your plan of attack and stick to it to help keep the stress to a minimum.
  3. Get some exercise to help relieve stress. If you have a bad day at work, go for a run or head to the health club and workout with weights. Punch a heavy bag to help battle your stress. Compete in a sport against a friend and talk with them about your stress to help find some relief.
  4. Change your diet to improve your mental outlook. Many people go on an eating binge when they are stressed out, which may cause the problem to get worse. If you eat healthy you will feel good about your personal image which can help you to overcome stress. Set a goal to lose a certain number of pounds and reduce your calorie intake until you hit your target.
  5. Learn how to manage stress through meditation. If you do not like the idea of meditation, try to combat your stress by stopping what you are doing and simply taking a few deep breaths to help you relax. Close your eyes at your desk for 60 seconds and think only positive thoughts. Do not attempt to resolve the issue that is causing you stress during this period of relaxation. Once you are ready, start working again and try to keep a positive attitude as you resolve your stress issue.
