Stuffing Recipes
Stuffing recipes can vary immensely or just by an ingredient or two. To get the perfect stuffing recipe for you, it's recommended that you try a recipe you find or that someone recommends, and adjust the amount or ingredients until it suits your taste buds. Below are two basic stuffing recipes.
To make a basic bread stuffing, you will need:
- four cups bread cubes
- 1/2 cup chopped celery
- four tablespoons diced onion
- six tablespoons melted better
- teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- beaten egg
-
1/4 cup milk or chicken broth
- In a skillet melt butter. Saute celery and onions until tender.
- Combine all ingredients. Fold ingredients together until well blended.
- Bake in a 9 x 9 inch baking dish at 350° for 30-minutes. I grease my baking pan to get the edges crispy, plus the stuffing comes out easier.
To make cornbread stuffing, you will need:
- four cups cornbread cubes
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup chopped celery
- 1/2 cup diced onions
- cup chicken broth
- beaten egg
- In a skillet melt butter. Saute onion and celery until tender.
- Combine all ingredients. Fold together to combine.
- Bake at 400 degrees in a 9x9 baking pan for 25 minutes. For some an all cornbread stuffing may be too crumbly. You can use half regular bread cubes and half cornbread cubes to substitute.
Popular bread and cornbread stuffing additions include apples, raisins, carrots and sausage. Thyme, sage, oregano, parsley and marjoram are also used to increase taste. These stuffing recipes can also be used to stuff a turkey or chicken. Due to the presence of raw eggs be sure the stuffing is cooked the whole way through before eating.
