If you are in high school, it is never to early to start looking for summer jobs for high school students. It can be difficult to find a summer job if you are a high school student because many employers don't want to invest time to train you when you are only going to be around for three months. One large mistake that young people make when looking for a job is waiting until it is too late. The best summer jobs for high school students are in high demand, so it pays to think ahead. Here are some of the best summer jobs for high school students:

  1. Lifeguard Being a lifeguard is one of the best jobs you can get as a high school student. Many lifeguards also teach swimming lessons to earn extra money. In order to obtain a summer lifeguard job, you will need to get certified as a lifeguard. This costs money, but sometimes your employer will reimburse you. You also need to be an excellent swimmer in order to pass the swimming tests. Check your local University or YMCA for certification classes.
  2. Babysitter Babysitting can be an ideal job for high school students. Some high school students are able to obtain babysitting jobs through family friends, so ask your parents if they have any friends who could use a babysitter. Taking a basic first aid and CPR course can be helpful by putting parents at ease leaving their children with you.
  3. Retail Working in retail can be a a great job for a high school student. For example, if you get a job at your favorite clothing store, you will likely get discounts on clothes. Working in retail can also teach you valuable skills like remaining calm in high stress situations and basic customer service skills you can add to your resume.
  4. Camp Counselor Many camp counselors are high school students. You have an increased advantage if you have previously attended a summer camp and/or if you have a special skill (at sports or science, for example). Being a camp counselor can add experience in your area of interest. Pay can vary from volunteer status to a monthly stipend, depending on the camp and the skills required.
