To start the swimmer's ear treatment, you will need:

  • Hair dryer
  • Pain reliever
  • Washcloth
  • Petroleum jelly
  • Cotton ball
  • 3/4 cup of salt
  • Ziploc bag
  • Paper towels
  • Heat pad
  • Ear dropper
  • Rubbing alcohol
  1. Blow it dry. Use a hair dryer for the first step in treating swimmer's ear. Place dryer on a low setting and point towards the ear to evaporate any liquid inside the ear canal.
  2. Relief from pain. Take an over the counter analgesic for ear pain as a component of swimmer's ear treatment. An alternate pain relief remedy is to place a warm, small towel or heat pad on the ear.
  3. Find a wax alternative. Replace depleted ear wax using petroleum jelly to treat swimmer's ear. Place petroleum jelly on cotton ball and rub the outside of ear canal. Less wax is produced during the agitated process of having swimmer's ear.
  4. Cut puffiness. Warm salt in a container and place in microwave for twenty seconds to perform the next swimmer's ear treatment. Pour salt in small Ziploc bag and wrap a paper towel around it. Place heat pad on ear to reduce swelling.
  5. Try drops. Use a dropper to drop rubbing alcohol into the ear. Tilt the head when applying the drops and remain in that position for five minutes. Tilt head the opposite way to let liquid run out of ear.

The steps above will help you treat swimmer's ear. The treatment should be completed several times a day. Follow the directions above for three to four days.
