Symptoms Of AIDS In Men

Wondering what the symptoms of AIDS in men are? No symptoms or signs are shown when first getting infected with HIV, you can still pass the virus to others. Some people briefly have an illness similar to the flu for two or three weeks after becoming infected. Symptoms of AIDS in men might include:

  • Headache
  • Fever
  • Rash
  • Swollen lymph glands
  • Sore throat

You may go for years without symptoms but the virus will continually multiply and destroy your immune cells. Later on symptoms may develop such as:

  • Fever
  • Swollen lymph nodes which usually are the first sign of the virus infection
  • Weight loss
  • Diarrhea
  • Shortness of breath and coughing

If not found and treated, it will progress to AIDS in ten to fifteen years and by that time your system will have been damaged severely. This makes you more susceptible to infections and diseases, more than a normal healthy person. Some symptoms of these infections might include:

  • Skin rashes or bumps
  • Soaking night sweats
  • Distorted or blurred vision
  • Unexplained pertinent fatigue
  • Headaches
  • Diarrhea
  • Shortness of breath and cough
  • Fever for several weeks over 100F.
  • Loss of weight
  • Unusual lesions or white spots in the mouth or on the tongue

If you suspect HIV infection or are possibly at risk, counseling should be sought as quickly as you can. People that are active sexually should have testing for AIDS done frequently. Catching the onset of HIV infection will have better results rather than waiting for the development of full-blown AIDS. Symptoms of AIDS in men often start out with depression and temporary mood swings, often lethargic and uninterested in their usual activities. Their sleep pattern changes, they often don't want to eat because of nausea and have feelings of guilt and hopelessness. People that have HIV should know the symptoms to watch for and should see a doctor if they experience these symptoms. A cure still hasn't been found but there are medications to make you more comfortable and slow down the progression of the disease. An important factor for the AIDS patient is having good support of friends and family.
