When selecting tailgate recipes, it is best to choose those foods that are easy to prepare such as grilling. You should also pick those recipes that you can do most of the prep work at home prior to the tailgate event. Listed here are three great easy and tasty choices.

1. Hot Dog with Peppers and Potatoes Sandwich

Things you will need to make a hot dog with pepper and potato sandwich:

  • 1 package hot dogs (Ball Park)
  • 2 large potato, thinly sliced
  • 2 large green pepper, cut into thin strips
  • Italian or Cuban rolls
  • 4 tablespoons of butter or margarine
  • salt
  • pepper
  • garlic powder
  • cooler
  • medium-sized skillet
  • spatula
  1. Prepare the potato and pepper by peeling the potato skin and thinly slicing and wash the green pepper then cut into strips.
  2. Place a medium-sized skillet on the grill. Add 4 tablespoons of butter. (DON’T BURN THE BUTTER)
  3. Once the butter is melted, place the green pepper strips and potato slices in the skillet. Sauté the pepper and potato slices stirring occasionally until tender, about 15 to 20 minutes.
  4. Add salt, pepper and the garlic powder.
  5. Then place the hot dogs on the barbecue and grill until golden to medium brown, about 15 minutes.
  6. Place grilled hot dog, peppers and potatoes on Italian roll. Add mustard.

2. Delicious Grilled Burgers

Things you will need to make a grilled burger:

  • 2 lb. ground chuck (6 patties)
  • 2 tbsp. accent
  • salt and pepper
  • 2 tsp. Tabasco sauce (about 3 drops on each patty)
  • gas grill/charcoal
  1. Place the burger patties on a plate and season with accent, salt, pepper, and Tabasco sauce, then place the burgers in the fridge for half-hour to marinate.
  2. Fire-up the grill (medium heat). Place the patties on the grill.  Burgers are best when grilled over medium heat. The grilling times can vary according to the heat of the grill and the thickness of the burger. For a 3/4-inch-thick burger, cooking times required are: Rare - 6 minutes Medium-rare - 7 minutes; Medium - 8 minutes Medium-well - 9 minutes; Well - 10 minutes
  3. Wait a couple of minutes before flipping the burger over on the other side. Also, to avoid the juices from escaping the burger, do not press on the burger with a spatula.
  4. Add the cheese (American, Provolone, Swiss, or etc) of your choice about a minute before the burger is done.
  5. When the burger is grilled to your preference, remove it from the grill and serve on a Kaiser Roll or hamburger bun with slice of onion, mustard, or Ketchup.
