Tennessee Elk Hunting: How To Apply For A Hunt

Ever wondered about Tennessee elk hunting, how to apply for a hunt license and what to do once you got one? In order to participate in Tennessee elk hunting, you must fort purchase an application, and submit it to the annual elk hunting lottery. Because the elk population is not high enough to support the number of hunters seeking a trophy elk, only ten hunters per year will receive permits to hunt elk in specified Wildlife Management Areas in Tennessee.

  1. Apply for the Tennessee elk Hunt Lottery online or at a Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) licensing agent or regional office. Personal information required to apply includes your residency statue, TWRA identification number, driver’s license number, social security number, previous address, current address, choice of hunt and billing information.
  2. Submit your application April 1, through May 31, of the current hunting year. Prices for the application vary according to where you purchase. Online applications can typcially be purchased for $12.50 per application. Licensing agents typically charge $10 for the application and a $1 agent’s processing fee. So the difference is negligible.

The price of applications, combined with the fact that only ten hunters are chosen yearly, leaves a lot of money left over that is used to help increase the elk population in the state of Tennessee, while preserving the state's natural beauty. To make things a little more fair for lottery participants, winners of the drawing are not permitted to enter the drawing again, until 10 years after their previous elk hunt.
