Thai kickboxing techniques are great to learn when you would like a little boost in your workout. Learning this type of kickboxing will ensure that you know how to protect yourself. Protective gloves are sometimes worn for added protection during fighting. This can be a rewarding experience for anyone who wants to do Thai kickboxing.

  1. The Thai Clinch This is a technique where many kickboxers learn how to regain their breath to make more concise moves during kickboxing. This technique can be used to kick an opponent off balance and then deliver a shocking blow. This is like a full nelson in traditional wrestling. Hold the shoulders, press down on the collarbone and then push your opponent's head downward before delivering the blow.
  2. The Jab This is one of the most used techniques in western boxing to throw your off hand during a fight and keep your opponent at bay. This leaves the other hand to protect your head and body from blows your opponent might deliver.
  3. Elbow Attacks This is one of the most dangerous blows during Thai kickboxing. Elbow attacks can actually cut or knock your opponent out completely. You want to keep your posture straight and get close to your opponent. Use force with the blow. The strike comes from the shoulder and fancy footwork is used to execute this move.
  4. Roundhouse Kicks These kicks are used in Thai kickboxing a lot where the shin is the weapon. Aim low for the thighs, middle for the ribs and high for the chin. The trunk and hips should be twisted during the time when the kick is administered.
  5. Low Kicks This kick can be both offensive and defensive. It can be used to counter a high kick and is generally faster at knocking your opponent off balance. You should be able to sweep the floor using your leg and strike the opponent in the calf.
