While it may be New England's least populated state, there are plenty of things to do in Vermont. Vermont, known as the "Green Mountain State," is one of the most beautiful places to visit as the state possesses beautiful, rolling mountains, a plethora of gorgeous lakes and ponds, and charming rivers and streams. - Ski One of the best things to do in Vermont during the winter months is to ski. Vermont is home to Killington, the largest and most popular ski resort in the entire east. Vermont also boasts other poplar resorts such as Mount Snow, Stowe, Smuggler's Notch, and Sugar Bush.
- Hike The Appalachian Trail runs though the state, which makes hiking one of the top things to do in Vermont. Vermont also has an abundance of hills and mountains that offer thousands of hiking trails.
- Fish Vermont has plenty of rivers and lakes to fish from. Lake Champlain, the state's largest lake, and the Connecticut River, which borders Vermont and New Hampshire, offer some of the best fishing in New England; which makes fishing one of the most fun things to do when visiting Vermont.
- Hunt Outdoor enthusiasts come from all over New England to hunt Vermont's deer and foul. Some of the largest deer in New England can be found in Vermont, while Lake Champlain offers some outstanding duck hunting.

Every year in May, people from all over the state participate in a raft race which takes place down a three mile stretch of the Ottauquechee River.
