Tiger Woods Scandal
The Tiger Woods scandal hit the sports world like the eruption of a sleeping volcano. Sudden and earth-shaking, the scandal Tiger Woods embroiled himself in left mounds of destruction in its wake. His reputation and marriage bore the brunt of the loss.
Thanksgiving 2009. The Friday after Thanksgiving 2009, Woods tried to downplay the scandal by confessing to his then wife, Elin, that the National Enquirer was about to run a false story on him reportedly sleeping with Rachel Uchitel. Insiders told Posner Tiger convinced his wife to talk to on the phone to convince her the story was untrue and their relationship was platonic. However, upon reading some of the details in the National Enquirer, Elin was doubtful Tiger or Rachel was telling the truth about the scandal.
Ein Finds Out. After Tiger took Ambien and went to sleep, Elin apparently texted Rachel pretending to be Tiger and the true nature of the relationship was revealed in her sexy response. Melee ensued which resulted in Tiger fleeing his house and sending a panicky text to Rachel saying his wife had discovered the true nature of the relationship. Upon finding out Tiger was texting Rachel, Elin reportedly wielded a golf club and sent Tiger fleeing out of the house and into his car for shelter.
Tiger Flees. Upon fleeing, Tiger hurriedly drove his car smack into a tree on his property causing minor injuries that sent him to the hospital. Upon his release from the hospital, he did not immediately return home. Sadly, this one affair proved to be just the beginning of the Tiger Woods scandal. Other mistresses including Jaimee Grubbs, Jamie Jungers and Holly Sampsom came out of the "Wood"-work to report Tiger Wood's extramarital romps in full detail--some with cell phone messages from Tiger as proof. It's still difficult to marry the man who held himself in such high esteem and discipline on the golf course to the sex-craved cheat who seemingly chased as much tail as he could every time Elin's back was turned. Even fans who feel his private life is his own business, scratch their heads at the dichotomy of the man caught up in the scandal.
Public Apology. Besides apologizing to his family, the Tiger Woods scandal forced him to render an apology to his fans and his sport for his behavior off-the-greens. Thankfully, unlike the parade of celebrity wives who publicly stand by their cheating man, Elin did not attend his public apology to swallow the embarrassment he brought on her, himself and his family. Later, she filed for divorce and reportedly received a $110 million settlement. After a five month absence from the greens, Tiger went back to the golf course, but his game continues to struggle. In February 2010, he was fined for spitting on the 12th green at the Dubai Desert Classic. He rendered a public apology.
