Dating can be a nerve-wracking experience, but with a few tips for body language and dating, it can become much more pleasant. The key to exhibiting attractive body language is subtlety. You don’t want to look as though you’re trying. Also, remember to be yourself. That’s why your date agreed to go out with you in the first place.
Being aware of your own body language can be an asset to your dating life.  Use these tips for body language and dating to properly assess or enhance the situation.

  1. Mirror your date’s body language. Mirroring is a way of putting yourself in sync with another person. If he leans forward, you lean forward. If she tilts her head sideways, do the same. By the end of the evening, he will feel as though you have a lot in common.
  2. Smile. Show that you’re enjoying your date’s company and she will be more likely to enjoy herself and think well of you. Once you smile, your entire body language becomes more relaxed and dating goes much more smoothly when you’re comfortable.
  3. Touch your date occasionally. Touching establishes intimacy while you’re dating.  It also gives you a signal as to your date’s level of comfort with you. Use your hand to touch her lightly on her back as you guide her through a door or touch his arm as you laugh at his jokes. Make sure to keep the touching above the waist or you may offend your date. Read your date’s body language while you’re touching her.  If he seems uncomfortable, lessen your contact.
  4. Keep your limbs uncrossed. Crossed arms usually indicate hostile body language or secrecy-two qualities that are a definite turn-off while dating. The only exception is if you’re mirroring your date’s body language, but that only applies to crossed legs.
  5. Maintain eye contact. It indicates interest and helps to build rapport when you’re dating. Don’t just stare into her eyes because that’s unsettling. Break eye contact occasionally, but keep your eyes moving to different points of his face.
