If you get your phone wet, don't panic; learn about these tips for wet cell phones. Most phones have a sticker inside that changes color when it gets wet. Your cell phone company will know that you are lying if you walk in and say your phone "just stopped working." Instead, check out these tips for wet cell phones so you can fix the problem yourself.
- Turn your phone off. If you have a wet cell phone, the worst thing you can do is try to turn it back on. Naturally, your immediate reaction is going to be to turn it on to see how bad the damage is. Try to restrain yourself. You will only make it worse. Better yet, take the battery out.
-
Dry your phone quickly and efficiently. You don't want to wait around for your phone to dry itself. This will just lead to further damage. You don't want to dry it out using too much heat though, as this can also damage your phone by melting the inner adhesives. Your plan of action will depend somewhat on where you dropped your phone.
- You might need to rinse your phone. If you dropped your phone in the toilet, you will want to wipe it off with a light cleaner, such as rubbing alcohol. If you dropped your phone in the ocean, in a beer or a mixed drink, you will want to rinse it out with fresh water. Salt and sugar can damage your phone when they dry.
- Blow the water out of the wet cell phone. One popular way of drying out a cell phone is to use a hair dryer. While this can technically work, you risk damaging the inside of your phone. If you must dry your phone with a hair dryer, set in on cool; don't use heat. Your best bet is to use a can of compressed air to push the water out of your wet cell phone.
- Find some rice or silica gel. Put your wet cell phone in a bowl of silica gel. If you don't have access to silica gel, use rice. Let your phone sit in a bowl full of either one overnight. Both have moisture-wicking properties.
