Whether you are a budding college student or an established professional looking to make a transition, having a list of the top 10 paying jobs can certainly come in handy. Yes, it is true that no one should base their career strictly on monetary reasons, but you also do not want end up in a dead end career with no future and no way to support yourself financially. This list of top ten paying jobs can certainly illustrate what fields are growing and will maybe help steer you in a positive direction.

  1. Surgeon, Anesthesiologist, Gynecologist, Physician. Everyone seems to know that the medical profession is a well paying job; but according to the 2008 U.S. Labor report, surgeon tops the list of the best paying jobs. 
  2. Dentist, Orthodontist, Prosthodontist. The field of dentistry contains a great number of top ten paying jobs. Whether it is an orthodontist specializing in cosmetics or a dental surgeon, this career path can lead to upwards of average earnings of 155,000 dollars a year.
  3. Company Executive. Those in the business field who persevere and make it to the top of their company are some of the most well paid individuals. Chief executives of businesses can bring in an average annual salary of 150,000 dollars.
  4. Psychiatrists. Proving that many folks view their mental health every bit as important as their physical health, the field of psychiatry is included in this list of ten best paying jobs. 
  5. Engineering. An engineer, especially someone in the management field, is a highly touted and sought after professional. Those persons who rise to the top of this field can earn in excess of 140,000 dollars a year. 
  6. Podiatrist.  Feet are obviously very important. While this profession may not pay as well as a few of the other medical fields, a podiatrist’s salary is nothing to be scoffed at, with a median annual earnings of 113,000 dollars.
  7. Lawyer. Just being slightly outranked by the foot doctor is the lawyer. It should really come as no surprise that this profession is included in the list of the ten best paying jobs. 
  8. Information systems managers. The high tech and fast paced world of information systems is another extremely well paid profession. Those who are proficient in this field can expect to see their salaries well over the six figure range. 
  9. Air Traffic controllers. Perhaps a surprise addition to the top ten paying jobs field is the air traffic controller; however, anyone who has the nerves and focus to stay in this profession can expect to make an extremely comfortable living. 
  10. Physicist. Helping to prove that brains do pay is the average annual salary of the physicist. This respected and well sought after field rounds out the list ten best paying jobs.
