The top iPod Touch apps in the app store catalog tend to have a few things in common. Generally speaking, they offer something substantive and interesting. Whether it be a fun game, a useful tool, or access to information like news and weather, these apps give their users real value. Additionally, they have an attractive interface. People who own an iPod Touch want to take advantage of the device’s sharp screen and intuitive multi-touch surface. Therefore, they flock to top iPod Touch apps that integrate these features into the software. The following apps are exemplary of what separates a good app from a great one.

  1. “Words With Friends” This app has gained a huge amount of popularity in the past few months. In short, the game it offers is much like the board game Scrabble. The key differences are that it allows you to play multiple games against multiple friends using the iPod Touch’s Wi-Fi connection. Also, there’s no time limit on move making, so the game can go on as long as it takes for someone to win. The board itself is laid out in a clean, attractive way, and playing the game is as easy as dragging tiles with your finger.
  2. “Pandora Radio” This top iPod Touch app earns its place on the list for its simple elegance and functionality. Much like the Pandora website, the Pandora app lets you use a Wi-Fi connection to stream a personalized selection of music on your iPod. What’s more, it connects automatically with your Pandora account, meaning you’ll have immediate access to all your favorite stations.
  3. “Angry Birds” No list of top iPod Touch apps is complete without this ubiquitous game. Though its premise is a little strange at first, the seamless gameplay has proven to be hopelessly addictive to the multitudes who’ve downloaded it. If you do decide to download this app, expect your productivity at work or school to drop significantly.
  4. “AIM” Short for “AOL Instant Messenger,” this app gives your iPod Touch a whole new level of functionality. With the increasing number of cell phones that have internet access, instant messaging between phones is gaining ground against more expensive text messaging. Thus, AIM can help make your iPod Touch almost like an iPhone, assuming the majority of your friends use an instant messaging client. The app comes in both a free and paid version, both of which have easy-to-navigate interfaces and superb functionality.
