Types of 20's Fashion Trends

The 1920’s fashion trends have had a big influence on men’s clothing, which were mainly designed in London. The sacque suit, tail coat and black patent leather shoes were all trends of the 1920’s, which can still be seen in men’s clothing today.

1. Sacque Suit. This suit was popular in the 1800's. Sacque suits were worn with shirts that were peach, blue-gray and cedar in color along with silk ties and black bowler hats to completed the look.
2. Tail Coat. This coat was worn for an evening on the town. It was coordinated with white shirts and some men wore bow ties and shirts with white wing collars, which became a popular trend in the 1920’s.
3. Black patent-leather shoes. The 1920’s fashion trends wouldn’t be complete without these infamous shoes. Mostly worn with evening wear, the shoes were very popular and almost every mans wardrobe included a pair.
4. Hats. These were extremely chic during the 1920’s era and they provided a handsome addition to any outfit. Top hats and bowler hats were simple and close fitting, which were timelessly trendy and are still being worn today.
5. Oxford Bags. 1925 was the birth of the baggy pants at Oxford University, hence giving them there name. These took the place of knickers and would influence men’s fashion trends for the next three decades. They came in different shades of gray, fawn, lovat and biscuit and were made of flannel.
6. Tweed. This was a popular fabric that is thought to have originated in Scotland and the cloth was a hand-woven fabric. Now known as homespun wool, it was used to make men’s clothing that was warm as well as trendy.
7. Sportswear. With popular designers of the 1920’s, sportswear became a fashion trend that men couldn’t live without. It brought out the athletic look that provided a more relaxed fit with comfortable textiles, making it easier to work in.
8. The London Cut. This was very trendy in the 1920’s, making men’s fashion popular by the English tailor Scholte. These suits jackets, sweaters and short pants were great fashion options for men in the 1920’s.
9. Trimmings and Embroideries. French designer, Jeanne Lavin, was known for intricate trimmings, embroideries and decorations. This became so popular that it went on to enhance men’s clothing, sportswear and eveningwear.
10. Knickerbockers. These were a fashion trend in the 1920’s that later became known as knickers. They came in different lengths below the knee and they were a more casual type of clothing. Knickers were worn with Norfolk or golf coats, a belt and shoes or boots, which were essential for sporting this fashion trend.

The types of 1920’s fashion trends still have an influence on men’s fashion today and designers are always looking for new ways of incorporating historical fashion trends in designing new ones. Most of these styles and trends originated in London and can still be seen in the fashion industry today.
