Types Of Alcohol

There are three main types of alcohol used worldwide. Beer, wine, and hard liquor are all extremely popular and have been used for hundreds of years. Alcohol is a depressant that is known for also producing greater sociability up to a certain point and then causing serious impairment to cognitive functioning.

  1. Beer is a lower alcohol content beverage with alcohol percentages ranging generally between 2.5 and 6.5%. Although some brands are higher or lower than this range, this is where the vast majority of beers exist. Higher alcohol content beers are usually called ales or lagers. This type of alcohol is a popular beverage in most countries and there are hundreds of brands around the world. It is made from malt, hops, grain, yeast, and water.
  2. Wine is another type of alcohol that has been around for a very long time. Fruit is used to make wine, and one of the most popular fruits used to do so are grapes. Most wines are between 10 and 14% alcohol content. They have a completely different taste from beer, but they are also enjoyed worldwide. Wine is generally thought to taste better as it ages longer.
  3. Hard liquors are the final type of alcohol. These are also called spirits, and they are distilled in order to reach alcohol percentages higher than the naturally occurring 15%. The most popular forms of hard liquor include gin, whiskey, brandy, vodka, rum, and tequila. Hard liquors are generally taken as shots or used to create mixed drinks. Different types of mixtures produce completely different tastes, and some mixed beverages are noted for tasting more like candy than alcohol.
